I sometimes feel pressured by family members or just society in general with regards to school
The feeling is that it's necessary to do exceptional in school so you get into the best college to get some high-paying job that you won't even end up liking. To be perfectly honest, school isn't among my top priorities. To me, grades are completely unnecessary. We go to school to learn, not to obsess over a letter or number that's basically meaningless. We're so caught up in getting good grades and being the "top" student that we forget why we're even here. The only reason people cheat on tests and homework is because they're worried about grades. They couldn't care less whether or not they learn anything. The future is a scary thing, we can't control everything that happens to us. If I had the option, I'd love to go into the music industry (whether it be singing, playing, or working with a band or label). Music has always amazed me, how it can be anything you want it to be. It can be serious, deep, and meaningful, or just crazy and fun. Music and lyrics can often be some of the most inspirational things we hear. For some reason when messages are put together with music they just stick and they really make you think. I love it. Music allows you to just let go of whatever you're feeling and get into it, it's like pure energy in the form of sound. But back to school-- what college I get into, or if I even got into college at all wouldn't bother me in the slightest. For me to be able to play music, I don't need to know any of the things taught in school. For me to be happy, I don't need any of the things taught in school. Helping people makes me happy. Knowing I have impacted someone's life in a positive way truly puts a smile on my face. I don't need any schooling to do that, and I don't need any schooling to be happy in life. Making a huge amount of money isn't going to make me happy.
I also hear the word "successful" a lot. Supposedly you need to do well so that you can be successful later on in life. That just depends on how you define the word successful, doesn't it? Success is subjective. If you've accomplished what you want to accomplish, you've succeeded. If I'm happy and living a life I want to live, then I've succeeded. You have to define things for yourself. Trying to live your life by someone else's definitions will just cause you to get upset. You have to find what makes you happy, and go with it, regardless of what others or society may tell you.
Well, I've rambled on for a while now, so I guess that's enough for now. For some reason it seems like I do most of my reflective thinking late at night, as it's now 1:23 am. I'm probably going to go to bed now. Hope you're all doing well.
I was homeschooled until highschool. I learned that the grades weren't important in the same way learning actually is. Grades are a concept relative only to the knowledge that is attained throught the persuit of said grades. Homeschool was different, because my schooling was just that schooling focused on me However, moving into mainstream school, put a strain on that. I found that I was supposed to compete with other people for something that never really mattered much to me: An intangable concept that was somehow supposed to gauge my intelligence. I don't think that grades are what marks success, yet a sense of fufillment within one's self that truely defines that second conceptual appiration. Success is an elusive lady, making both enemies and lovers of those who desire to possess her. I think that you, Scott Supersonic, will have your success in this lifetime. However, do not disregard knowledge in the hot pursuit of success, because in order to attain her, knowledge is what you will need to grasp her, and make her your own.
Wow. Very well written. I can relate to a lot you just said, as well as agree with you. Unfortunately, I've quit school. Then I went back and lasted a semester and just couldnt do it. I quit again. Now I feel like a complete failure because of everyone saying I've thrown my life away and looking down on me for my decision. Honestly, I will not give up on my education. I know I need my grade 12 to at least make some money to get by. If it werent for that, I probably wouldnt get it. I dont need a piece of paper to prove anything. I know I'm smart. I know enough. I still learn day by day, I don't need to sit in a classroom with teachers going on and on about these things we have to be taught, even if we won't even use it in the future. I completely understand what you're saying and I agree with you 100%. You, my friend, have a head on your shoulders and I love your outlook on life. Take Care. Much love, Courty. <3
That doesn't seem too bad. My day was alright. Kinda stressing but that's what I get for trying to make plans last minute. =P I'm planning on having a few friends over tomorrow for my birthday (which is on Sunday). I hope you have a good weekend. Take Care.
